A video circulating on social media of the possible killing of a dog in Barstow has led to an investigation by the San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control.

The Office of District Attorney Jason Anderson has been made aware of an incident involving a video circulating on social media in which a male is seen swinging an axe behind a fence. There was speculation on social media that the male was killing a dog with the axe. Our office has confirmed the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control (ACC) were notified about the incident. Animal Care and Control is conducting the investigation.

Preliminary information suggests the male was digging a grave to bury the dog, which had previously passed away. There was no evidence found consistent with the dog’s owner killing the dog. As part of the investigation, the dog’s remains were submitted for necropsy to determine the cause of death. When the results of the necropsy are available, appropriate action will be taken and the investigation will continue if need be.

We thank the public for their concern for the animals in our community and for bringing this incident to our attention. Please use discretion when posting videos, photos, and information on social media. The safety of all people and animals are paramount, and you could jeopardize an investigation in doing so. If you have evidence of a crime, or what you believe to be a crime, please contact the investigating agency in lieu of simply posting it online.
