The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has charged Sandro Xavier Rivera (Age 32 of Apple Valley) with the murder of Michael McCormack in a San Bernardino County jail facility.


CASE SYNOPSIS

On Monday, August 31, 2020, at about 12:08 am, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s West Valley Detention Center were doing their security checks in a housing unit. The deputies located an unresponsive inmate, who was later declared deceased after life saving measures were attempted by emergency personnel. An investigation was initiated. Sandro Xavier Rivera has been charged for the death of the inmate, Michael McCormack.

After reviewing this case, our office has charged Mr. Rivera with violation of the following section of the California Penal Code:

Penal Code Section 187(a) – Murder (Felony)
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought.
