The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has charged Austin Johns (Age 29 of Adelanto), Anthony Michael Poore (Age 28 of Adelanto) and Ciera M. Pettaway (Age 28 of Adelanto) with murder and torture in the death of Sarah Saranzak (Age 39 of Adelanto).

CASE SYNOPSIS

On Monday, June 22, 2020, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a medical aid call in the 18200 block of Larkspur Road, in Adelanto. The victim, Sarah Saranzak, was pronounced deceased.

An investigation was initiated, and Austin Johns, Anthony Michael Poore, and Ciera M. Pettaway were arrested.

After reviewing this case, our office has filed one count for each violation of the California Penal Code, against Johns, Poore, and Pettaway:

Penal Code Section 187(a) – Murder
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought.

Penal Code Section 206 – Torture
Every person who, with the intent to cause cruel or extreme pain and suffering for the purpose of revenge, extortion, persuasion, or for any sadistic purpose, inflicts great bodily injury as defined in Section 12022.7 upon the person of another, is guilty of torture.

The crime of torture does not require any proof that the victim suffered pain.
