Today, San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson swore in Deputy District Attorney Melani Jones. Melani comes to our office after spending about 1 1/2 years with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office.

Melani graduated from the University of La Verne College of Law in 2018. While there, she interned for our office for about two years. After she graduated, she took a position as a prosecutor for Fresno County because our office wasn’t hiring at the time. It was a loss for the office and the people of San Bernardino County.

A Great First Impression

Melani happened to be a student in one of Mr. Anderson’s classes at the University of La Verne. Mr. Anderson was impressed with Melani as both an intern, student, and a law student. Her work ethic, poise, sophistication, and intelligence are amazing and very admirable.”

Because of the impression she had made with Mr. Anderson, he reached out to her recently to see if she would consider a position with our office. Fortunately for the people of San Bernardino County, Melani came home to the Inland Empire, where she grew up. She could now fulfill her dream of giving back to her community by serving in the district attorney’s office. “Melani represents some of the finest professionalism we’ve ever had in the office,” said Mr. Anderson.

Creating Safer Communities

One of Melani’s career goals is to work with the gang unit. While interning with the office, she saw first hand the work the prosecutors did to ensure communities were safer because of the robust cases they prepared and successfully prosecuted. What stood out most was the fact the deputy district attorneys assigned to the unit did not have an attitude of “let’s see what sticks” in terms of their pursuit of justice for a victim. Instead, they compiled solid cases and maintained the highest ethics, which stuck with Melani.

Melani believes becoming a member of the gang unit will allow her to provide intervention on some level, in hopes of creating safer communities for the residents of San Bernardino County.
