FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has filed multiple felony charges against Nicholas Campbell (35) of Fresno, California. On July 16, 2022 San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call for service referencing a suspicious vehicle in the 5700 block of Sycamore Ct., in the city of Rancho Cucamonga. During contact with the deputy, defendant Campbell produced a handgun and fired at the deputy, striking him, and then fled the scene.

The defendant was located and identified nearby. Defendant Campbell is a convicted felon who is currently on parole out of Northern California.

On July 19, 2022 the following charges have been filed against defendant Campbell;

Count 1- PC 664/187(a) – Attempted Willful, Deliberate, Premeditated Murder of a Peace Officer

Count 2- PC 29800(a)(1) – Possession of a Firearm By a Felon

Count 3- PC 25400(a)(2) – Having a Concealed Firearm on One’s Person or in a Vehicle -Not Registered

Count 4- PC 25850(a) – Carrying a Loaded Handgun on One’s Person or in a Vehicle – Not Registered

Our Office is also filing several special allegations including PC 12022.53(b) and PC 12022.7(a) intentionally discharging a firearm, causing great bodily injury to the deputy. The DA’s Office is also alleging PC 1170(h)(3) due to the current charge being a serious and or violent felony as well as Campbell’s extensive criminal history which includes prior strikes for attempted carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon and gang activity.  

Currently Campbell is in custody and was arraigned this morning, July 20, 2022 with no bail set. His next hearing date is 8:30am July 27, 2022 at Rancho Cucamonga Superior Courthouse, department R19.
