The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has charged Robert Elvis Sparks (Age 40 of Patton) with multiple counts of attempting to murder deputy sheriffs.


CASE SYNOPSIS

On Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at about 12:38 pm, a deputy sheriff with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a call of a subject refusing to leave the location at 18671 Bear Valley Road in Hesperia. During this call, the deputy sheriff was injured by the subject, Robert Elvis Sparks. Mr. Sparks also attempted to injure several other deputies who were attempting to take him into custody.

After reviewing this case, our office has charged Mr. Sparks with the following violations of the California Penal Code:

Penal Code Section 664/187 – Attempted Murder of A Peace Officer (Felony)
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being or fetus with malice aforethought.

Penal Code Section 487(d) Grand Theft of A Firearm (Felony)
Grand theft is theft committed in any of the following cases:
(d) When the property taken is any of the following:
(1) An automobile.
(2) A firearm.

Penal Code Section 29800(a)(1) – Possession of A Firearm By A Felon (Felony)
Any person who has been convicted of a felony under the laws of the United States, the State of California, or any other state, government, or country, or of an offense enumerated in subdivision (a), (b), or (d) of Section 23515, or who is addicted to the use of any narcotic drug, and who owns, purchases, receives, or has in possession or under custody or control any firearm is guilty of a felony.
