The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Matthew John Ehlen (Age 38 of Fontana) for vehicle theft in Victorville.


CASE SYNOPSIS

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Civic Drive and Seneca Road in Victorville regarding a report of two stolen vehicles. During the investigation, Matthew John Ehlen was arrested.

After reviewing this case, our office has filed charges against Mr. Ehlen for violating the following sections of the California Vehicle Code and California Penal Code:

Vehicle Code Section 10851(a) – Driving Or Taking A Vehicle Without Consent (Felony)
Any person who drives or takes a vehicle not his or her own, without the consent of the owner thereof, and with intent either to permanently or temporarily deprive the owner thereof of his or her title to or possession of the vehicle, whether with or without intent to steal the vehicle, or any person who is a party or an accessory to or an accomplice in the driving or unauthorized taking or stealing, is guilty of a public offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year or pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170 of the Penal Code or by a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000), or by both the fine and imprisonment.

Penal Code Section 496d – Receiving A Stolen Vehicle, Trailer, Construction Equipment, Or Vessel (Felony)
Notwithstanding Section 664, any attempt to commit any act prohibited by this section, except an offense specified in the accusatory pleading as a misdemeanor, is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one year, or by imprisonment pursuant to subdivision (h) of Section 1170.
