The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has charged Brittney Jordan (Age 28 of Lake Arrowhead) with child abuse and assaulting a child.


CASE SYNOPSIS

On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at about 4:30 pm, detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Crimes Against Children Detail, were notified of a two-month-old male who was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit at a local hospital. The crime occurred in the 1400 block of Sequoia Lane in Lake Arrowhead. An investigation was initiated and Brittney Jordan was arrested.

After reviewing this case, our office has charged Ms. Jordan with violating the following sections of the California Penal Code:

Penal Code Section 273ab(b) – Assault On A Child Becoming Comatose/Paralysis (Felony)
Any person, having the care or custody of a child who is under eight years of age, who assaults the child by means of force that to a reasonable person would be likely to produce great bodily injury, resulting in the child becoming comatose due to brain injury or suffering paralysis of a permanent nature, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for life with the possibility of parole. As used in this subdivision, “paralysis” means a major or complete loss of motor function resulting from injury to the nervous system or to a muscular mechanism.

Penal Code Section 273a(a) – Child Abuse Likely To Cause Great Bodily Injury Or Death (Felony)
Any person who, under circumstances or conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits any child to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of any child, willfully causes or permits the person or health of that child to be injured, or willfully causes or permits that child to be placed in a situation where his or her person or health is endangered, shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or in the state prison for two, four, or six years.
