The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office has charged Anthony Michael Oetken (Age 54 of Newberry Springs) with attempted murder of a peace officer and other charges.
CASE SYNOPSIS
On Monday, August 10, 2020, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance call on Dogwood Street in Newberry Springs, where a deputy was attacked.
After reviewing this case, our office has charged the following violations of the California Penal Code against Oetken:
Penal Code Section 664/187(a) – Attempted Murder
Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought.
Penal Code Section 245(c) – Assault Upon Peace Officer or Firefighter
Any person who commits an assault with a deadly weapon or instrument, other than a firearm, or by any means likely to produce great bodily injury upon the person of a peace officer or firefighter, and who knows or reasonably should know that the victim is a peace officer or firefighter engaged in the performance of his or her duties, when the peace officer or firefighter is engaged in the performance of his or her duties, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for three, four, or five years.
